What’s better than all-you-can-eat tacos on Taco Tuesday? A pairing with delicious and refreshing margaritas made with the finest tequila!

As an established, family-owned Mexican restaurant, we pride ourselves on sharing the joy of happy hour, margaritas, and Mexican cuisine. However, we’re not the only ones who highly recommend the unbeatable combination of tacos and margaritas.

If you’re not salivating yet, then you may be by the time that we’ve recommended the best options for a match made in heaven.

One of the best ways to enjoy Mexican cuisine is to explore the origins of its tastes and flavors.

No one is really certain where and when the first taco was introduced, however, there is a common theory. Legend tells how the first taco emerged in the 18th century in the silver mines in Mexico.

The taco first arrived in the United States in 1905 with Mexican migrants. At the time, tacos were a portable and affordable type of street food. Over time, the original taco was combined with American ingredients and became a fusion of flavors.

Today, tacos are a staple meal, loved for their delicious flavor.

The margarita is largely considered a mystery cocktail, with no real certainty about its true origins. However, just like the taco, there are several theories surrounding the refreshing adult beverage.

One story believes that a Mexican restaurant owner concocted the popular drink to impress a showgirl in 1938 who was supposedly allergic to all forms of alcohol except tequila.

Since the first margarita was shaken to release the tequila flavor, various permutations have developed.

Combining tacos and margaritas is a sure-fire way to export diners to a lively, festive environment that is dripping with culture and exploding with flavor.

The traditional taco is typically filled with diced onions and cilantro and perhaps a dash of salsa or guacamole. Of course, an established Mexican restaurant will offer the traditional taco, as well as a variety of delicious options on the menu.

Consider the following different types of tacos - and imagine the perfect margarita to pair with the meal.

  • Mahi fish taco - combining Mexican spices with a Californian flair

  • Shrimp taco - a seafood flavor cooked in Mexican spices

  • Steak taco - for the carnivore with a preference for chipotle

  • Street taco - an authentic Mexican street food experience (filled with chicken or steak)

  • Vegan taco - catering for the rise of veganism in the United States

Margaritas are a fan-favorite and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. As long as they are freshly squeezed, they can be served in a glass, giant fishbowl, or pitcher.

The traditional margarita, prepared with the best tequila, can be adjusted, and tweaked to produce various delicious flavors.

  • Specialty margaritas - such as Tequila Sunrise with orange juice and Triple Sec, or Watermelon Margarita made with 100% Agave Camarena silver tequila

  • Flavored margaritas - made with tequila, fresh margarita mix, and a choice of fruity flavors such as melon, pomegranate, and cranberry

  • Frozen fruit margarita - perfect for a balmy, Florida day, available in a selection of flavors such as coconut, strawberry, and mango

Overall, the combination of tacos and margaritas is hard to beat. The light, sweet, agave flavor of tequila in the margarita perfectly complements the fresh taste of tacos.
