Our Mexican Lunch Menu Favorites

Who doesn't love a good Mexican lunch?

One of the greatest things about Mexican food—besides the muy delicioso taste—is the life and history in each dish. Food is so much more than a bunch of ingredients cooked together, it represents love, family, and pride. In Mexico, lunch is the largest and most important meal of the day.

Before we get into some of our favorite and most popular Mexican dishes, Tequila Sunrise Mexican Grill would like to show you what a typical Mexican lunch looks like.

Lunch in Mexico

When the clock strikes 2 p.m. in Mexico, it’s lunchtime! Lunch is typically eaten a little later than in some other parts of the world and is considered by the locals to be the most important meal of the day. At this time, locals will find a Fonda for Comida corrida.

A Fonda is a small, family-run tavern that sells affordable cooked meals. In Mexico, they serve what is known as Comida corrida. Translated this means ‘meal on the run’ and is ideal for busy workers wanting a healthy and cooked lunchtime option.

The meal of the day usually has three or four-courses, starting with a soup. The second course is either pasta, rice or salad, and the main course is a meat dish. Sometimes there is even a complimentary dessert after your meals.

Choosing our favorite Mexican dishes was difficult, especially considering that all of them taste delicious. Instead, we thought that we would share some of our most popular dishes with you.

Tacos

While you’re probably picturing a hard taco shell, traditional tacos are made using soft, corn tortillas. However, in America, it's not uncommon to serve tacos with soft flour tortilla shells, and most of the time Mexican restaurants will have both options. The meat is marinated overnight and can be stewed, grilled, or fried. The taco is then topped with cilantro and finely diced onion or Pico de Gallo.

Lunch at Tequila Sunrise Mexican Grill offers several taco dishes, plates, and combinations starting at just $6.99 with the purchase of a beverage! If you're looking for a suggestion, try the Mahi tacos; the flavors are muy delicioso!

Burritos

A traditional burrito is a flour tortilla wrapped around refried beans, meat, and some cheese. Burrito fillings vary from region to region with some places adding potato, chorizo, or roasted peppers as well.

Who doesn't love a good burrito for lunch? Lucky for you, Tequila Sunrise has some of the best burritos in Fort Lauderdale! Just like our lunch taco dishes, burrito lunch specials also start at $6.99 with the purchase of a drink. Amigo, might we suggest the 1800 Cadillac Margarita?

Enchiladas

Authentic Mexican enchiladas consist of a corn tortilla that has been dipped in sauce and fried. This gives them a nice crispy outside, ready to be stuffed with your choice of meat. They are usually topped with cheese, sour cream, tomato, lettuce, and onion.

Enchiladas happen to be one of our specialties at Tequila Sunrise Mexican Grill. Our menu boasts several delicious options, but if you're here specifically for lunch, we've got specials for enchilada plates too! Starting at just $6.99 with the purchase of a beverage, you can get a traditional enchilada with rice and beans. Your choices are cheese, chicken, ground beef, beef, or pork. Whatever filling you choose no worries amigo! We promise you can't go wrong.

Quesadillas

Similar to the three dishes, a quesadilla involves a corn or flour tortilla that has been filled and grilled. Inside you will find meat, spices, and vegetables. A full quesadilla is two whole tortillas on top of one another, while a half portion is a single tortilla folded to create a half-moon.

For $6.99 and the purchase of a beverage, you can sink your teeth into one of our chicken or veggie quesadillas. We think these pair well with one of our signature and freshly squeezed margaritas—available by the glass, fishbowl, or pitcher!

What Food Represents

For people all around the world, food holds an important place in both their lives and culture. Besides settling our grumbling bellies, food brings people together.

Within Mexico, there are different people and indigenous groups. Not only is the food unique to Mexico as a country, but it differs between the different groups of people within it as well.

For Mexican families, food is a source of love for your family and pride for your heritage. Their food is full of traditions and ultimately brings families together. Families share meals that remind them of their own history, as well as their present time spent together.
